Orzone AB, a world leading healthcare quality and medical training services company, today announces in partnership with the European Union of Medical Specialist (UEMS), its Section and Board of Anaesthesiology (EBA) and the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA), the successful completion of the truly global online pilot examination based on the UEMS- Anaesthesiology curriculum.
The online examination was performed in 10 countries by more than 130 candidates from Belgium, England, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Malta, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey.

The pilot examination is the second test completed after the first ever Pan-European online examination conducted earlier this year. The aim of the tests is to validate both the educational content from participating Medical Specialties and the technical platform developed by Orzone.
The first Pan-European online examination was performed on February 4th, 2011 in collaboration with UEMS and Joint Committee of Intensive Care (UEMS-IC) based on the UEMS-Intensive care curriculum.

Similar to the first Pan-European pilot examination in Intensive Care, the first Global pilot examination in Anaesthesiology included milestones such as:

  • Multi-country examination administered simultaneously throughout different time zones and continents.
  • Web-based online examination in a secure environment
  • Centrally organized with national administration and global co-ordination by the European Society of Anaesthesiology

Upon completion of validation, the goal is then to extend the test and to include all trainees enrolled in the Anaesthesiology curriculum across all UEMS/EBA and ESA-member countries.

European harmonisation of medical training

To provide a technical solution supporting a harmonised curriculum within the European Union, a collaboration with the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) and Orzone has been established. The exact structure and content vary among different medical specialties and is therefore being developed in collaboration with the UEMS Section for each Medical Speciality and the relevant European Society when applicable. Where there is a need to adapt to national requirements and guidelines Orzone collaborates with National Societies and National Authorities along with hospitals and individual skill centres to develop the local version of the platform.
Furthermore The British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) was the pioneering society to utilise the Orzone software for its annual accreditation Knowledge Based Assessment (KBA) in cardiology. The KBA testing methodology was scientifically validated in 2009 and has been used successfully in a live exam in 2010 and will be continued in future years.
